During the period between the 4th of September 2023 – the 19th of January 2024, I spent my time at Avalanche Studios Group as a VFX Intern.
At Avalanche I have further developed my skills as a VFX Artist, getting used to their proprietary engine all while creating VFX for the game Contraband and learning what it means to be a part of a Tripple A project.
Due to the workflow at Avalanche and the tools I had access to as well as their style leaning more towards realism. I have been very much out of my comfort zone, and In the beginning, I struggled to produce to the level I wanted. However, this has forced me to stop avoiding some of the parts of VFX that I may have solved in other ways prior. Such as controlling my particles with forces, Gravity, Velocity, and so on, As well as relying less on Meshes with shaders and more on Particles to drive the main pieces of my effects.
As a result of this internship, I now find myself to be a more capable VFX Artist as well as having Realism as a style unlocked.
